Join us to honor and thank those folks who made cross country skiing at Red Lodge Nordic Center some of the best ever this season.


February 25  Backcountry Film Festival

Join us at the Elks Club in downtown Red Lodge for our 4th annual BC Film Fest, courtesy of Winter Wildlands Alliance. After watching the Winter Carnival Cardboard Classic parade, stop in and order some food and drinks, then it’s the Film Fest at 7:00 pm. Cost is $7 (tickets sold at the door only). Great door prizes. Great movies connecting you to the human-powered backcountry experience and some issues that go with it. This is an annual fundraiser for BRTA, your Red Lodge area trails promoter.

January 21 Moonlight Ski

The Forest Service will be joining BRTA with a speaker at 7:00 on Skiing Red Lodge, and we’ll have the usual excellent chili, hot chocolate, hot dogs, corn bread; bring a dessert to share. Moonrise at 8:00. Dark at 6:00

Learn to Ski Clinic January 15

Red Lodge Nordic Center will be having a learn to ski clinic for beginners on Saturday, Jan. 15, beginning at 10:00 am. We will have two sessions at this time, one for classic cross country skiing, and one for skate skiing. Cost is $10 plus $5 trail fee (cash or check only).

Preregistration is required. Call or email Grant after Jan. 6 and before Jan. 13 at or 425-0130.

You must bring your own skis, boots, and poles (and clothing appropriate for the weather). Rentals are available at Sylvan Peak in Red Lodge or the Spoke Shop in Billings.  Red Lodge Nordic Center is located 2 miles west of Red Lodge (see map on our website Directions page).



Moonlight Ski & Solstice Celebration!

Tuesday, Dec. 21 promises a full moon and the winter solstice! So let’s celebrate with a moonlight ski, bonfire, campfires, desserts, and socializing.  At the Nordic Center (2 miles west of Red Lodge).

Nordic Center Setup – October 23

Each year at this time we need to set up the Nordic Center for winter skiing.  Extra help is needed and appreciated. Join us for a kick-off day of work and fun.

When: Saturday, October 23rd, 10 AM to 1 PM.
: Converting Aspen Ridge Ranch from summer horseback riding/hiking trails to winter skiing trails. Jobs: hauling firewood, clearing trails, installing snowfences and signs.
: Meet at the Nordic Center parking lot on Smith Rd.
: Because when we’re all done, we’re having a B-B-Q at 1:00 PM.
: Bring gloves, work clothes; & if you have ‘em: rake, shovel, gas trimmer, ax, maul, sledge hammer.


Gear Swap – November 20

The fourth annual BRTA SKI & GEAR SWAP will be held Saturday, November 20 at the Civic Center, with gear check-in Friday evening 5:00-7:00 and Saturday morning 8:00-10:00. Sales run 11:00-1:00 on Saturday. Be prepared to buy and sell used gear.
