Rumpus On Broadway

This event is a spring-time “Rumpus” or celebration of the low-traffic, mall-like environment that the water main project has created on Broadway in downtown Red Lodge. Our non-profit organizations encourage you to come out to shop, meet friends and drop by your favorite restaurant or watering hole, all in support of those businesses that have generously supported us.

There will be a RAFFLE with prizes of $100 each to five Fun Run charities.

Shoppers receive a raffle ticket for each $15 they spend in a Broadway store or restaurant. You name BRTA (or another nonprofit) on your raffle tickets.

Community Trails Day, Saturday, June 8

THE PALISADES TRAIL WORK DAY

Your local trails’ organizations are asking everyone in the greater Red Lodge Community to join us as we work on the new Palisades Trail. This 2.5-mi. trail will join Palisades Campground to the end of Fox Road and will provide a new opportunity for hiking, biking, skiing, horseback riding. Montana Conservation Corps will start building trail June 2. We want to finish up June 8.

What: An all-out community-wide effort clearing and building the Palisades Trail.

Who: Hikers, bikers, skiers, families…the whole community! The more the merrier!

When: Saturday, June 8th, 9:00 a.m.

Where: Meet at the Palisades Campground. Carpool! [Take West Fork Rd. 1/2 mile from Red Lodge, turn right on Palisades Campground Rd., 2 more miles to the CG].

Food: Lunch & snacks are provided. A Celebratory BBQ will follow! PLEASE RSVP! with David at 406-425-1944

Bring: Work gloves, hiking boots and long pants.

Wine Tasting Benefit for BRTA

Babcock and Miles is hosting a benefit wine tasting for Beartooth Recreational Trails Association at The Pollard (1 N. Broadway, Red Lodge). Donate $15 and you can taste a large variety of quality wines while socializing with other BRTA supporters. When you order these wines from the store during this event, $1 per bottle is donated to BRTA by Babcock & Miles. This is all extremely generous of Babcock & Miles, and we thank everyone for supporting us. Special thanks go to Drew Porth, Steve Haman, all the folks at Babcock & Miles and to Angela Beaumont and staff at the Pollard!

Earth Day Trail Cleanup-April 27

BRTA will be looking for volunteers to clean up the Airport Trail and McGillen St. Trail in Red Lodge, RESCHEDULED for April 27. Meet at Field School Park by the tennis courts 10:00 and plan to disperse to parks and trails, finishing clean up about noon. Then you are invited to Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary for free entry and treats!

BRTA Outdoor Day & Annual Meeting-Saturday, May 11

More fun coming your way as we celebrate 11 years of existence. There will be demonstrations of outdoor skills presented by experts on many topics: GPS, boots and blisters, geocaching, fly fishing, bike maintenance & tire changing, packing your back pack, one burner cooking, outdoor shelters, field journaling, horses on trail, S.A.R. and wolves & fire.

Plus updates on BRTA’s doings: the hospital’s Wellness Trail and the Forest Service’s Fox Road-to-Palisades trail. Be sure to attend the Bear Aware talk, including a bear spray demo!

Schedule:

2:00 and 3:00 pm-lectures start. Choose from many demonstrations.

4:00- BRTA organization annual update and trails info session.

5:00-Bear Aware talk and demo.

All free; all entertaining and educational. Food and drink provided.

The kids will enjoy the pleasures of cross-country skiing while touring around the Nordic Center. Depending on volunteer availability, some basic ski instruction may be offered by BRTA.

BRTA BACK COUNTRY FILM FESTIVAL

Mark your calendar. It will be good! Sixth annual Backcountry Film Festival.

Details: Seven great movies, lots of variety including skiing & boarding in Japan with Japanese drumming background music; awesome all-mountain sit-skiing; skiing & boarding from the summit of Denali; an eloquent 11 year old environmentalist, and MORE! Film lengths range from 3-30 minutes, nearly 90 minutes total.

This is a fundraiser for BRTA, and it is a lot of fun. Great raffle items from local merchants! New venue…at the Roman Theater, downtown Red Lodge. 7:00, March 1. Watch the Winter Carnival’s parade of Cardboard Classic entries on Broadway, have a bite to eat at your favorite restaurant, then head to the Roman for a beer, snacks and movies. $7 adults, $5 children (tickets sold at the door).

Winter Wildlands Alliance brings this film fest to Red Lodge for BRTA, featuring grassroots movie makers promoting human-powered backcountry recreation plus conservation efforts to keep the winter backcountry available for all.
